City
of Xanthi is greatly engaged into several international activities;
the European projects have been continuously a supportive argument
in the politics and economy of the city.
Via these projects, between 1995 and 1998 the city developed necessary
know – how, creating at the same time a strategic master
plan for the sustainable urban management in respect for cultural
heritage.
After 1998, being placed as regional key actor and innovation
centre in a position to share the experiences within the international
community, Xanthi focused on architectural heritage sustainability
as urban/rural policy choice, sustainability indicators and models
as strategy, monitoring and evaluation tools, and strategic regional
and local planning for management of cultural landscapes.
