Institute of Ecological and Regional Development - IOER

The IOER is a publicly funded but privately organised research institute which closely co-operates with the Technical University of Dresden. With staff of about 100, it is one of the largest spatial research institutions in Germany. From an organisational point of view the institute has 7 major fields of competence: regional development, urban development, housing, landscape ecology, urban ecology, building ecology, geo-information.
The Institute has its core expertise in research questions pertaining to resource-efficient land-settlement development taking special account of opportunities for co-operation between municipalities as well as between public and private players. The main thrust of the Institute's activities can be summarised as "Land-settlement development and co-operation at (inter-) municipal level as a means of generating sustainable spatial structures."
